The holidays are such a joyous time, there’s a certain subtle sweetness in the atmosphere, school’s out, and your work week gets cut shorter starting from thanksgiving all the way to New Year’s. People are always in a generous jolly mood. However, something that never seems so jolly is the hassle of travel. Recently I traveled to Puerto Rico for the holidays and had a wonderful time however what wasn’t so wonderful was the travel and high ticket prices. So I’d figured what better way to start the New Year than with some travel tips to make your future travels of 2023 a breeze.
Here, I’ve formulated 10 travel hacks to make your trips hassle-free.
1. When planning a 3-day trip take Monday off instead of Friday most times it’s much cheaper to fly Saturday to Monday than to fly Friday to Saturday.
2. Tuesdays at 3:00 pm six weeks before your flight it has been proven to be the absolute cheapest time your tickets will ever be
3. If you’re looking for cheap flights during the holiday season, your first instinct may be to look at Coach class tickets, but actually, many business and economic plus seats are cheaper at this time this is because there are a lot more general travelers and a lot fewer business travelers during this time of year
4. Before traveling internationally make sure to check your passport’s expiration date some countries do not accept passports that are set to expire within six months.
5. The prices for flights go up the more you visit a site, so use your browser’s incognito tab or delete your browser history every time you check flight rates. Rates can also change up to three times per day
6. Try using a PC rather than a Mac when exploring hotel booking websites. These websites can tell what type of computer you are using and will show Mac users more expensive bookings first. According to the Wall Street Journal Mac users are charged $20-$30 more.
7. Whenever you make a packing list for a trip, make two copies and pack the second one to make sure you bring everything back.
8. Hate paying those excess baggage fees at the airport? Check the airline’s websites to find out how much you’re allowed to bring and then weigh your suitcase on a mini luggage scale before leaving a scale is only about $15-$20 online but you can save hundreds and extra baggage fees.
9. Compared to the next flights early morning flights tend to be less crowded and have a lower chance of being delayed or canceled.
10. When booking a flight that has a layover through the United States keep in mind that the minimum time, you’ll need for a layover is an hour and a half. Anything less and there’s a good chance you won’t be able to catch the next flight.
